A RESEARCH ON THE USE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES OF ESKISEHIR VOCATIONAL SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

Vocationalschools in Turkey and all over the world are higher education institutionswhich aim to educate the skilled manpower that are needed by the country’sneeded sectors. The rapidly changing and developing information technology isnow integral part of our lives. For this reason, the importance of educatingqualified human resources equipped with information technology at vocational collegesis critical. This study was carried out to determine the level of informationtechnology usage of students who study at Eskisehir Vocational School (EMYO) ofAnadolu University. The aim of the study was to determine whether there is arelationship between students' class, gender, computer ownership, the type ofhigh school they graduated from, their residency type during school and the level of use of informationtechnology. A questionnaire was prepared according to the Likert scale andconducted with 200 students. These students currently study at the officemanagement and managerial assistantship, foreign trade, real estate and realestate management, tourism and hotel management and marketing programs ofAnadolu University Eskisehir Vocational School. According to the results of theresearch, a statistical relationship was found between the first and secondgrades of students and their use of information technologies. There was nostatistical relationship between gender, computer literacy, high school typethey graduated and the types of residence and use of information technologyduring their education.

Türkiye’de ve tüm dünyada meslek yüksekokulları (MYO), ülkelerinihtiyaçlarına yönelik mesleklere uygun nitelikli insan gücü yetiştirenyükseköğretim kurumlarıdır. Hızla değişen ve gelişen bilgi teknolojilerininyaşamımızın ayrılmaz bir parçası haline geldiği çağımızda bilgi teknolojilerieğitiminin yeri ve önemi yadsınamaz. Bu nedenle meslek yüksekokullarının bilgiteknolojileri ile donanımlı nitelikli insan gücünü yetiştirmedeki önemikritiktir. Bu çalışma Anadolu Üniversitesi’nde (AÜ) eğitim veren EskişehirMeslek Yüksekokulu’nda (EMYO) okuyan öğrencilerin bilgi teknolojileri konusundane derece bilgiye sahibi oldukları ve bu teknolojileri hangi seviyedekullandıklarını belirlemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada,öğrencilerin sınıfı, cinsiyeti, bilgisayara sahip olma durumları, mezunoldukları lise türü ve öğrenim süresince ikamet türlerinin bilgi teknolojilerini kullanma seviyelerine etkisinin olupolmadığı tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Anadolu Üniversitesi Eskişehir MeslekYüksekokulu’nun büro yönetimi ve yönetici asistanlığı, dış ticaret, emlak veemlak yönetimi, turizm ve otel işletmeciliği ve pazarlama programlarındaöğrenimine devam eden 200 öğrenciye 5’li Likert ölçeğine göre hazırlanmış anketuygulanmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre öğrencilerin birinci ve ikinci sınıfolmaları ile bilgi teknolojilerini kullanımları arasında istatiksel bir ilişkisaptanmıştır. Cinsiyet, bilgisayara sahip olma, mezun oldukları lise türü veöğrenim süresince ikamet türleri ile bilgi teknolojilerini kullanımlarıarasında istatistiksel bir ilişki saptanmamıştır.
