FACTORS AFFECTING THE SUCCESS IN MATHEMATICS OF VOCATIONAL SCHOOL STUDENTS: IN TERMS OF STUDENTS’ OPINIONS

Abstract

Vocational schools are established to meet the need for skilled technicians in our country educational institutions. On graduation, students have a profession that provides specialized training and that both the theoretical and practical schools. In our country, from elementary school age students have found the most difficult and complex course of the math lesson, it is examined in this study and vocational school students' opinions. Mathematics achievement at being successful in school life in general was brought in a lot of research. In this study the factors affecting the success of vocational high school students in mathematics was the point of view. Survey data collection method is used to investigate. This investigate has been applied 356 students which have been student in Pamukkale University. The data were analyzed using SPSS 15.0 program. Analysis of data in the factor analysis were used. The results of research found six factors affecting the success of mathematics in terms of students opinion. These factors have been classified “Willingness”, “Contribution”, “Skill”, “Interest”, “Contents” and “Income Level”

Meslek yüksekokulları ülkemizde nitelikli ara eleman ihtiyacını karşılamak amacıyla kurulmuş olan eğitim kurumlarıdır. Mezun olmuş öğrencilerin bir meslekte uzman olmasını sağlayan ve hem teorik hem pratik eğitim veren okullardır. Ülkemizde ilköğretim çağından itibaren öğrencilerin en çok zorlandıkları ve karmaşık buldukları ders olan matematik dersi, bu çalışma da meslek yüksekokulu öğrencilerinin görüşleri bakımından incelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Matematik de başarılı olmanın genel olarak okul hayatında başarıyı getirdiği birçok araştırma da saptanmıştır. Bu çalışmada ise meslek yüksekokullarında okuyan öğrencilerin bakış açısından matematik başarısını etkileyen faktörler saptanmıştır. Çalışma da anket yöntemi uygulanmıştır. Anket Pamukkale Üniversitesi’nde okuyan 356 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS 15.0 for Windows programında çözümlenmiştir. Verilerin analiz edilmesinde faktör analizi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda öğrencilerin görüşü bakımından matematik başarısını etkileyen altı faktör bulunmuştur. Bu faktörler “İsteklilik”, “Katkı”, “Yetenek”, “İlgi”, “İçerik” ve “Gelir Düzeyi” olarak isimlendirilmiştir
