Abstract

İsrail ifadesi, tarihten günümüze Yahudileri tanımlamak için kullanılan en önemli kelimelerdenbirisidir. Bu çalışmada İsrail terimi merkeze alınarak, Yahudi tarihinden ve Yahudipeygamberlerinden örneklerle kelime, tarihi, teolojik ve filiolojik açılardan incelenmeyeçalışılacaktır. İsrail adı, İbranilerin atalarından biri sayılan Hz.Yakub’a verilen bir isim veya lakaptır.Yahudi Kutsal kitabı Tevrat’ın (Tora) Tekvin bölümünde anlatıldığına göre bu isim ona Tanrı Yehovatarafından verilmiştir. Kelime İbranicede, Tanrı’yla güreşen veya Tanrı’yla mücadele eden anlamınagelmektedir. Bu anlamdan hareketle bir kısım araştırmacılar, Yahudilerin tarih boyu, Tanrı’yla,insanlar ve diğer toplumlarla yaptıkları mücadeleye işaret ettiği şeklinde yorumlamışlardır. Hz.Yakub, bazı noktalarda Yahudilerden farklı olarak değerlendirilse de, İslam açısından da birpeygamber olarak kabul edilmiştir. İsrail kelimesi Kur’an’da, hem Yakub’un kendisini, hem de onunsoyundan gelen İsraioğullarını ifade etmek için kullanılmıştır. Yahudi tarihi boyunca da kelime,bütün Yahudileri ifade ederken, Hz. Yakub’un ölümünden sonra ise hem Hz. Süleyman’dan sonraKuzeyde kurulan İsrail Krallığı’nın, hem de bu günkü İsrail Devleti’nin adı olmuştur.

The term Israel is one of the names used to describe Jews from history to present. In this study, the term Israel will be centered and the historical, theological and philological aspects of Jewish history and Jewish prophets will be examined. The name Israel is a name or moniker given to the Prophet Yacob, considered one of the ancestors of the Hebrews. This name was given to him by God Jahve, as described in the Genesis chapter of the Torah. The first meaning of the word means wrestling with God, fighting with God. This meaning was interpreted by some researchers as a reference to the Jews' struggle with god, people and other societies throughout history. Jacob is regarded as a prophet in Islam, although at some point he is considered to be different from the Jews. Israel has been used in the Qur'an as a name of the Israelites to express both his name and his descendants. The word was used to describe all the Jews after the Prophet Jacob, and then both it became the name of the Israeli Kingdom established in the north after King / Prophet Solomon, as well as the state of Israel today.
