Artemision Deniz Savaşı: Yeni Bir Değerlendirme

Abstract

Persler ile Yunan kentleri arasındaki mücadele iki yüz yıldan daha uzun bir süre devam etmiş olsa da bu süreçte en önemli savaşlar Perslerin Yunan anakarasını MÖ 490 ve 480/479’da ele geçirmeye çalıştığı sırada yaşanmıştır. Açıkçası Pers Kralları Dareios I (MÖ 522-486) ve Kserkses (MÖ 486-465), Yunanistan’ı hâkimiyet altına alıp imparatorluk sınırlarını genişletmek istemiştir. Bu doğrultuda Pers saldırılarının stratejik ve taktiksel problemleri, her yönüyle araştırmacılar tarafından tetkik edilmiş olup günümüzde de incelenmeye devam edilmektedir. Bu tür problemlere bir örnek, Herodotos’un Artemison Savaşı’na dair anlatımıdır. Amacımız antik kaynaklar ile araştırmacıların öne sürdüğü görüşler çerçevesinde Artemision Savaşı’nın amacı ve safhalarını ayrıntılı ve daha açık bir şekilde ortaya koymaktır.

Although the struggle between the Persians and the Greek cities continued for more than two centuries, in this period the most important battles happened in the years of 490 and 480 or 479 BC when the Persians tried to obtain the Greek mainland. Obviously, the Persian kings Darius I (522-486 BC) and Xerxes (486-465 BC) wanted to expand the borders of their empire by taking Greece under their rule. Accordingly, the strategic and tactical problems of the Persian attacks were analyzed by the researchers at all points and they have continued to be studied in the present day. The narration of Herodotus regarding the Naval Battle of Artemision is an example for the aforesaid problems. We aim to reveal the objectives and phases of the Battle of Artemision, in detail and more obviously, within the frame of the points of view which were asserted by the researchers.
