Gorgias'ın retorik anlayışı

Abstract

Eski Yunan dünyasında konuşma sanatının öne çıkmasının nedeni toplumsal hayat içindeki yurttaşların konumuyla ilişkili olarak görülür. Döneminin bir konuşma ustası olarak Gorgias, konuşma sanatmın(retorik) insanlar üzerindeki büyük etkisinin kaynağında, insan bilmesinin sınırlılığının da bulunduğunu belirtmektedir. Gorgias'a göre bir kişi geçmişin hatıralarına, şimdinin bilgisine ve geleceğin öngörüsüne tam olarak sahip olabilseydi konuşmanın gücü kişi üzerinde bu denli büyük etki yapmayabilecekti. Bu, geçmişin, şimdinin ve geleceğin bilgisine sahip olmayan insanların konuşmacılar tarafından etkilenme yolunu da göstermektedir.

In Ancient Greek, the significance of rhetoric is as seen associated with the social position of the citizens. Gorgias as a master of rhetoric, emphasizes that the reason why people get so affected by the art of speech (rhetoric), is the limited horison of human knowledge. For him, if any person could have memories of the past, knowledge of the present and prevision of the future entirely, he wouldn't be so amazed by the art of speech. This also shows us the reason, why a stirring speaker can have influence on people quite easily, who do not have the knowledge of the past, the present and the future.
